Akshardham's main conspirator arrested from Kashmir: ATS

Ahmedabad The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested Yasin Ghulam Mohammed Butt, the main conspirator of the terrorist attack on the Akshardham temple in September 2002, from Anantnag in Kashmir on Friday. ATS SP Himanshu Shukla said that he is supposed to be of Anantnag. He was brought to Ahmedabad from the airplane on Friday evening. Even earlier efforts were made to catch him but he was away from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

SP said – After the interrogation, information and suspects involved in the attack will be found. 33 people, including two terrorists, were killed in this terrorist attack. More than 80 people were injured. The same year that attack was carried out in Godhra to take revenge of the Gujarat riots after the attacks on the Sabarmati Express.

More than 20 accused still absconding

According to the SP, Yasin Butt, who played a key role in sending AK-47 and other weapons for the attack, was caught in collaboration with local police on the basis of intelligence. Before this, two other accused were caught in the airport last year and in 2017. Still more than 20 accused in this case are absconding.

2014 Supreme Court acquits all

A special POTA court convicted six accused in connection with the attack on the grand temple on the evening of September 24, 2002 near Gandhinagar near the Chief Minister’s residence. Three were sentenced to death. The High Court had also restored the sentence, but in 2014 the Supreme Court acquitted all of them.
