Major US movie theater chain AMC Entertainment announced on Monday that it will distribute 86,000 NFTs as a reward to early ticket purchasers of Sony’s new Spider-Man movie, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.
Over 100 types of NFTs, minted on the WAX blockchain, will be sold to the members of AMC Stubs Premiere & A-List and AMC Investor Connect who will purchase the opening-day tickets of the movie. The movie is set to release on December 16 in the United States.
Meanwhile, users are required to buy the tickets and watch the movie to become eligible for the NFT rewards. Winners of the reward program will receive an email from AMC on December 22, where it would give specific instructions on how to retrieve the NFT. The pre-sale of the tickets have already started on Monday.
AMC Chief Executive Officer Adam Aron revealed that the move has resulted in AMC’s online ticketing traffic Sunday night/Monday morning to soar, the highest transaction volume seen in AMC history.
“For those members of our AMC Stubs A-List, AMC Stubs Premiere and AMC Investor Connect program who are among the first to purchase or reserve their ticket to opening day at AMC, this unprecedented Spider-Man NFT is truly a ticket-purchase gift like nothing we’ve ever offered before,” Aron said in the announcement.
