Rampur Abdullah, son of former Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister and SP MP Azam Khan, was released by Rampur Police on personal bond. Rampur SP Ajaypal Sharma said that Abdullah was detained after he obstructed government work during a raid at Johar University. Party supporters clashed with the police during the action.
Police said that 2,500 rare stolen books have been recovered from the university so far. This university was founded by Azam Khan. On the other hand, a case has also been registered against Abdullah on Tuesday for making passport on the basis of fake documents. Abdullah is an MLA from Swar-Tanda seat.
Director General of Police OP Singh said that the raids started from Tuesday also took place on Wednesday. Senior officials said 50 boxes of 2500 books were recovered along with the stamps. Books are ancient and valuable.
The case is being investigated from June 16
The investigation of the case began on 16 June. Zubair Khan, principal of Oriental College, Rampur, had filed an FIR alleging that more than 9,000 books were stolen and taken to the library of Johar University.
Activists march to Raj Bhavan against detention
After Abdullah was detained, marched towards Raj Bhavan to meet party leader Governor Anandiben Patel, led by SP leader Naresh Uttam. They staged a sit-in in front of the Governor’s official building. He was not allowed to meet Anandiben. During this, activists shouted slogans against the Yogi government.

A party source said that SP president Akhilesh Yadav has asked activists in Bareilly, Pilibhit, Sambhal, Amroha, Moradabad and Bijor to reach Rampur on Thursday and demonstrate.
