Riding high the NFT boom, Christie’s auction house is now going beyond the off-chain sale with its collaboration with NFT marketplace OpenSea.
The sale of Christie’s-curated NFTs will take place as on-chain bidding on OpenSea’s platform rather than Christie’s website. According to the press release, users can now access the auction house’s NFTs via the Ethereum blockchain.
In addition, the auction will be open for browsing starting and December 1 and bidding will start from December 4. Highlights of the auction include video art “Forever” by Mad Dog Jones and “Miami Vice Rocket” by Tom Sachs. Other NFTs will feature works by Alpha Centauri Kid, Andre Oshea, Baeige, Blake Kathryn, DotPigeon, FriendsWithYou, FVCKRENDER, Krista Kim, and more.
“With this collaboration, we are bringing the Christie’s brand boldly onto the blockchain. Our collaboration with OpenSea allows us to combine our expert curation and prestigious provenance with the convenience of decentralization,” said Noah Davis, Christie’s Specialist and Head of Digital and Online Sales. He added:
“My hope is that this will be the beginning of a new era for NFT sales at Christie’s, where this amazing technology can be deployed to its full potential and help to onboard even more traditional contemporary art collectors to Web3.”
