Futurism took over the fashion industry in 2021. Luxury fashion brands, the likes of Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, and Burberry, have all minted their NFT collections which, unsurprisingly, sold for millions of dollars.
Now with hardly any days left for 2022, the metaverse is taking a step further in the fashion industry following the plans of virtual reality platform Decentraland hosting the first metaverse fashion week. Set to take place in March 2022, the fashion week will be hosted in collaboration with Decentraland and luxury NFT marketplace UNXD.

Built on Polygon (MATIC), UNXD is a fashion NFT marketplace founded by former editors of magazines Vogue and WIRED. In September, Dolce & Gabbana released the first NFT collection “Collezione Genesi” on UNXD and recorded sales of about $6 million.
Decentraland will host the four-day VR Fashion Week from March 24-27, 2022. Participants in the program will be able to attend fashion shows at Decentraland, purchase virtual fashion products displayed on UNXD, and don them on their virtual avatars.
The Sunday tweet by Decentraland called on designers, brands, and fashionistas to prepare for the fashion week. According to its tweet, Decentraland and UNXD will host a variety of events, including catwalk shows, pop-up shops, after parties, and overall seeking to offer an immersive experience to viewers.
