Nasdaq-listed sports betting operator DraftKings has unveiled plans to release an exclusive NFT collection in collaboration with the National Football League Players Association, or NFLPA.
As per the announcement, the NFTs will debut on the DraftKings NFT marketplace during the 2022-2023 NFL season. The new deal with NFLPA and NFLPA’s licensed partner, One Team Partners, gives DraftKings necessary licensing rights to use the NFL players’ names, images, and caricatures in the NFTs.
Founded in 2021, DraftKings is a US-based company known for offering fantasy sports contests and sports betting services. In October, “Polygon”, a scalable layer 2 solution provider for Ethereum blockchain, announced that it has signed a strategic contract with DraftKings.
DraftKings is set to offer what it called ‘Gamified NFTs’ that will allow users to use these NFTs within games against others on the platform. In addition, users will be provided with a buying and selling functionality to make any secondary trading.
Sean C. Sansiveri, General Counsel and Head of Business Affairs at NFL Players Inc. said:
“The NFLPA strives to be at the forefront of innovative new products, and the emerging landscape of digital entertainment that creates excitement among players and fans. We look forward to integrating NFL players into DraftKings’ NFT experience to create authentic connections for avid fans.”
