New company xAI announced
Elon Musk announced on the 12th that he has established a new artificial intelligence (AI) company, xAI.
According to xAI’s newly-launched official website, the company will work closely with Musk’s other businesses, such as Tesla and Twitter, while remaining a separate entity.
Currently, Mr. Musk has six major companies: Tesla (self-driving technology), SpaceX (spacecraft), Twitter (SNS), Neural Link (brain device development), Boring Company (tunnel excavation), and the newly added xAI. I manage a company. In particular, Tesla has positioned AI and automation as strategic priorities and is actively working on them.
At xAI, the team is organized around researchers from major companies involved in AI technology such as Google and Microsoft. Headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, where AI research and development is thriving, the 11 research team members have backgrounds that include Microsoft Research, DeepMind, OpenAI, and Google.
In his tweet, Musk said that the goal of xAI is to “understand reality.” In addition, he said that July 12, the date of establishment, has a special meaning, and supercomputer answers to “the ultimate question about life, the universe, and all things” in the science fiction novel “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. I quoted “42”.
And what are the most fundamental unknown questions?

The company’s website also states that it aims to “understand the nature of the universe.” This suggests Mr. Musk’s attitude against OpenAI’s AI language model ChatGPT. Musk previously said he was biased by OpenAI’s chatbot, and announced that he planned to develop an “AI that will try to understand humanity.”

Emphasis on AI safety
It also said it would take advice from Dan Hendricks, an AI safety expert and director of the AI Safety Center. Hendricks has previously warned that AI could pose “extinction risks” such as nuclear war and pandemics. He said, “There is a possibility that there are people who misuse AI to harm humankind, and if such AI possesses advanced intelligence and capabilities, it poses a serious risk to society as a whole.”
Musk helped found OpenAI with Y Combinator CEO Sam Altman and others, but left the executive position in 2018 and has since indicated that Microsoft, which has invested a large amount in OpenAI, has taken control of the company. there is

In March of this year, he expressed concern about the lack of safeguards against the risks associated with rapid advances in AI technology. Additionally, as part of a consortium of AI developers and tech industry leaders, he signed a letter calling for a six-month moratorium on training powerful AI models until the implications are fully understood.
