Hyderabad Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy died at the age of 77. They were suffering from pneumonia He was admitted to AIG Hospital for this. According to a Congress leader, the former Union minister took a last breath at 1.30 pm on Saturday at a private hospital in Hyderabad. He was also the Information and Broadcasting Minister in the government of former Prime Minister IK Gujral in 1998.
Reddy was born on January 16, 1942 in Madgul of Hyderabad. Now it belongs to Telangana state. His family has one daughter and two sons. Reddy was considered a legendary leader in Telugu politics. In undivided Andhra Pradesh, he was elected a four-time legislator and five times MP.
Reddy took over the responsibility of Urban Development Ministry in UPA-1 in the Emergency . In UPA-II, he has the responsibility of Ministry of Urban Development and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Reddy Chevella elected MP from Lok Sabha constituency in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. When Indira Gandhi implemented the Emergency in the country, Reddy had left the Congress in 1977 to the Janata Party. After this he returned to Congress in 1999.
