With Texas amongst the most crypto-progressive states in the USA, Fort Worth has become the first city government to pioneer a Bitcoin mining project. As part of the initiative, the council will build a small mining farm in City Hall and run three Antminer S9 miners it received in donation from the Texas Blockchain Council.

Per several reports, the mining rigs will run 24/7 in an enclosed environment of the climate-controlled information technology wing situated at the Fort Worth City Hall. It has been claimed that the miners will consume the same amount of energy as a household vacuum cleaner. In addition, the mining rigs will be hosted on a private network by the department data center.

“With blockchain technology and cryptocurrency revolutionizing the financial landscape, we want to transform Fort Worth into a tech-friendly city,” Mattie Parker, Mayor of Fort Worth, said in a statement. “Today, with the support and partnership of the Texas Blockchain Council, we’re stepping into that world on a small scale while sending a big message – Fort Worth is where the future begins.”

Fort Worth will run the program for about six months, set to start in October, where the city will offset the cost of running the mining equipment with the amount of Bitcoin generated during the period.

Texas has become one of the few cryptocurrency hubs in the United States after China, previously the world’s largest Bitcoin miner, shut down mining operations in the country. With its progressive laws and support for crypto mining facilities, Texas has seen several miners establishing and expanding their bases in the region.
