Hungary has finally revealed the bronze statue honoring Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous creator of the world’s largest cryptocurrency Bitcoin on Thursday.
The statue was sculpted by Gergely Réka and Tamás Gilly who made a featureless face of Bitcoin since the gender, height, weight, and age of Satoshi Nakamoto are unknown.
The sculptors said that they want to capture the essence of the popular mantra ‘we are all Satoshi’ and hence, made the hooded face reflective so everyone could see their faces and be reminded of that. In a conversation with The Associated Press, Gilly said:
“It was a big challenge. It is very difficult to make a portrait sculpture of a person that we don’t know exactly what they look like. I hope that through the language of sculpture I have managed to convey the basic idea of Bitcoin, that it belongs to everyone and no one at the same time.”
It has been erected in Graphisoft Park, a business park, near the Danube River in Budapest, Hungary.
Bitcoin’s project began in 2008 with the publishing of a white paper “Bitcoin: Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” under the name of Satoshi Nakamoto.
Andras Gyorfi, a Bitcoin journalist and the person behind the project told The Associated Press:
“We think of Satoshi as the founding father of the whole cryptocurrency industry. He created Bitcoin, he created the blockchain technology, he’s the god of our market.”
An official website was created for this production, and a sketch was released in June.
