West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that doctors performing at the SSKM Hospital in Kolkata lodged vulgar comments at her. She came to the hospital in order to urge the professionals to “get back to work”. Mamata stated that many outsiders misbehaved with her as well.
She spoke to a Bengali News Channel with regards to this: “I had gone to the emergency section to talk. But when I was there they mistreated and abused me. If someone else was there in my place, stricter action would have been taken.” Once again she painted herself as a victim, saying she forgave the “young doctors” and wants them to resume their duties.
The junior doctor who was grievously injured by a huge mob of 200 is still being tended to at Mullickbazar. Dr. Yash Tekwani, Dr. Paribaha Mukhopadhyay, along with another intern was mercilessly beaten by the family of the 75-year-old man.
NRS Medical College and Hospital Principal Saibal Mukherjee and Medical Superintendent and Deputy Principal, Prof. Saurabh Chattopadhyay have left their posts. The demands put forth by the protestors include the need for armed personnel and cops outside hospitals. The doctors also want the criminals who carried out the vicious attack to be punished in jail.
