Nalini came out in jail for the second time in 27 years, got one month's parole for daughter's marriage

Chennai. S Nalini, who is serving life imprisonment for life in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination, came out of the Vellore Central Jail on a one-month parole on Thursday. Nalini is among the seven convicts of the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. Earlier, after the death of his father last year, he came out of jail. Nalini had demanded a six-month parole for the daughter’s wedding preparations. But the Madras High Court granted the parole application for 30 days on July 5. Her daughter is studying medical in the UK.

Nalini had asked for a parole of six months

  1. Last month Justice MM Sundesh and Justice M Nirmal Kumar’s Bench had heard the parole application. The Tamil Nadu government had said that it should be given a maximum parole of only one month at a time. Nalini had asked for a parole of six months. It was said that one month will not be enough for the wedding preparations.

  2. Nalini is not allowed to interview

    After Nalini’s exit from the court, the court has refused to give any interview and meet any leader. He was presented in court in the midst of strong security. On June 25, the court had approved the hearing on Nalini’s plea.

  3. Rajiv Gandhi assassination in 1991

    Nalini has been lodged in Vellore for 27 years in jail. His daughter was born in jail too. Along with him six other convicts are also in jail. It also includes her husband Murugan. Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated during a election rally in Sriperumbudur of Tamil Nadu on 21 May 1991 in the LTTE suicide squad.

  4. State government changed death sentence to death

    In April, Nalini had appealed to the Madras High Court to give her an opportunity to talk. Nalini was sentenced to death for the Rajiv Gandhi assassination, but the Tamil Nadu government changed it on April 24, 2000 to life imprisonment.
