The Iran Economic Commission drafted a draft of the electricity tariff to be applied to cryptocurrency miners in the country. This draft is now awaiting the approval of the Iranian Council of Ministers.
Citizens in Iran have long been living under very difficult economic conditions. Citizens of the country are turning to cryptocurrency mining to be a remedy for this situation. These miners, benefiting from the cheap electricity prices in the country, are able to gain more profits than in many other countries.
Officials in the country are not very happy with the crypto-currency miners using electricity at such cheap prices. Iran’s Economic Commission has therefore prepared a new tariff that is planned to be applied exclusively to crypto-currency miners.
This new draft tariff prepared for cryptocurrency miners is presented to the Council of Ministers of Iran and is currently awaiting approval to enter into force.
Officials in Iran have not yet shared much detail about this new tariff. So we can’t say a definite thing about the new electricity prices projected for the miners.
We can say that the current electricity prices in Iran are quite inexpensive. Currently, citizens in the country pay a price of 0.05 dollars for a kW/h electricity. Iran Electricity Industry Union president Ali Bahşi recently suggested that the electricity price for cryptocurrency miners in the country be removed for 0.07 dollars.
