The Northwest Arkansas Council (NWA Council), a non-profit organization in Arkansas in the south of the United States, has announced an incentive program in a bid to attract remote workers from STEM disciplines to relocate in the region.

The council, which consists of business leaders aiming to promote development in the region, will offer $10,000 worth of Bitcoins as an incentive to tech professionals and other entrepreneurs willing to move into the area. In addition to Bitcoin, interested workers can also register for a street or mountain bicycle, or a membership to nearby arts and cultural facilities

The move comes as part of the council’s LifeWorks Here initiative, an incentive-based relocation campaign. The program was launched in November 2020 to attract talent and initially started by distributing $10,000 and bicycles to new migrants. It was revealed that over 35,000 applicants from more than 115 countries flooded in from the initiative.

“Northwest Arkansas is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, and we’re now seeing more explosive growth in our tech sector,” said Nelson Peacock, CEO of the NWA Council. He added:

“This expanded incentive offer — Bitcoin and a Bike — not only embraces the growing trend toward the use of cryptocurrency as a payment option by employers, but also helps increase our pipeline of talent to benefit tech employers, startups, cities, local businesses and the region overall.”

According to the press release, the council will offer incentives to eligible individuals willing to live for at least a year in Northwest Arkansas.
