- Earlier, OBC had issued 27% reservation mandate on which the High Court had banned
- At present, Scheduled castes are given 16% reservation, and 20% reservation to the tribe
Bhopal. On Tuesday, the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly passed the unanimously passed bill that gave 27% reservation for OBCs in the state. Under this, 27% reservation will be given to the OBC class government jobs and education in the state government. At present, OBCs are given 14% reservation.
The Kamal Nath government of the state had introduced this ordinance in March 2019 while improving the reservation bill. In the Cabinet meeting on June 4, the government had approved the proposal for reservation of 27% in the state for OBC.
The decision was given earlier in the High Court.
The state government had decided to increase OBC reservation from 14 to 27% on March 8. It also issued its ordinance, but after 10 days, this decision was challenged in the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the High Court had banned it. In addition to OBC, 36% reservation is being given to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the state. In such a case, if the law of giving 27% reservation to OBC is enforced then the state government will have to make changes in the recruitment rules in all its departments.
At present, 50% reservation is being given to Scheduled Castes, 16, tribals, 20% and 14% reservation for Scheduled Castes in the State. In this way 50% reservation is being given to all the three classes.
