The number of active users on the Ethereum layer 2 solution “Polygon” has increased exponentially, surpassing Ethereum for the first time on September 29.
According to recent data figures by polygonscan, the number of unique active addresses per day for Polygon rose to a record high of 566,516 on October 2, surpassing Ethereum which had the daily active address count to 527,158 on the same day.
Also, according to Etherscan data, the number of active polygon addresses has increased by 168% in the last 30 days, a mounting figure compared to Ethereum’s 0.6%.
The rise in Polygon users has been likely attributed to the popularity of NFTs and crypto gaming. For instance, many of the users were associated with Arc8, a mobile gaming app developed by GAMEE, a subsidiary of Animoca Brands.
GAMEE partnered with Polygon Studios for the launching of its token ‘GMEE’.
Spencer Noon, an investor in Variant, a first-check cryptocurrency venture capital fund, said in the Network report:
“User growth has many catalysts — First is NFT adoption. Since July, traders on Polygon OpenSea have multiplied 45.5x, and NFTs sold by 17.5x. Second, gaming is taking off. Arc8 is one example, achieving 104K DAU days after launch.
In addition to new users, existing users are re-engaging with Polygon at an incredibly high rate. Older cohorts are maintaining weekly retention rates of over 20%! In fact, many cohorts are displaying “smiling” retention curves, with retention improving over time.”
