President Kovind and Modi pay tribute to Vajpayee at Atal Memorial

President Ramnath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi always reached the Atal Memorial on Friday to pay homage to the former death anniversary of Bharat Ratna former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Several senior leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP Working President JP Adda also paid tribute to Vajpayee. Atal Ji’s daughter Namita Kaul Bhattacharya and granddaughter Niharika also reached the Smriti Sthal and paid tribute to her.

After Article 370 was neutralized from Kashmir last week, Modi also remembered Atal ji in his address to the nation. He had said that the dream that crores of patriots had with Sardar Patel, Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee has now come true.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was the Prime Minister of the country three times, first became Prime Minister in 1996 for 13 days. He had to resign because he could not prove the majority. He became Prime Minister for the second time in 1998. General elections were held again in 1999 after 13 months due to the withdrawal of support from allied parties. On 13 October 1999, he became the Prime Minister for the third time. This time he completed his term till 2004.

In December 2014, it was announced to confer Bharat Ratna on Atalji. In March 2015, the then President Pranab Mukherjee broke the protocol and honored Atal ji with Bharat Ratna at his home.
