new Delhi. The Congress on Saturday accused the BJP-led central government that since 2014 the government has allowed more than one crore trees to be cut for various developmental projects, leading the party to wonder that the BJP is destroying our future.

Congress’s chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted that the tree is life. It gives oxygen. The tree absorbs carbon dioxide. The tree protects the environment. The Modi government has allowed over 1,09,75,844 trees to be cut down in the last five years.
No data of trees destroyed in fire
Minister of State for Environment Babul Supriyo said on Friday in response to a question that the ministry had allowed 1.09 crore trees to be cut for development works between 2014 and 2019. He said that between 2018-19, the maximum 26.91 lakh trees were cut. Supriyo said that the Ministry does not have the data of trees destroyed by fire in the forests.
