Already, limited-edition lacrosse jerseys have been sold and distributed during the 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship from June 21 to July 1, 2023.
Each physical jersey has a branded patch with Near Field Communication (NFC) linked to the NFT version of the jersey. This allows the owner to securely access the blockchain to prove the jersey is genuine.
This NFC patch allows owners to record their purchase history. You will also have access to exclusive benefits and special offers.
Epoch Sports and Merchandise will release the rest of the NFT-paired commemorative jerseys on the official 2023 World Lacrosse Championship webstore. A limited quantity will be shipped from the end of July.
What are NFTs?
Abbreviation for “Non-Fungible Token”, a digital token that cannot be replaced and has a unique value. In addition to being used for exchanging “digital items” in blockchain games, it is also an epoch-making way for rights holders (creators) in the “secondary distribution market”, which was difficult to achieve with second-hand sales, as well as proof of ownership of high-priced art works. It is also attracting attention as a means of reduction.
Aiming to diversify blockchain introduction cases
Cardano Foundation CEO Frederick Gregard explained:
This effort demonstrates the usefulness and accessibility of the Cardano blockchain.
Diversification of blockchain adoption cases is an important part of the mission of the Cardano Foundation. It’s great to see more companies implementing blockchain solutions.
Merchadise CEO Alex Phelan said:
This collaboration is an important milestone for the apparel brand. It sets a new standard for intellectual property protection and also encourages fan engagement.
Blockchain allows buyers to verify the authenticity of the product they are buying by simply scanning the NFC chip. At the same time, you will have access to various special offers and support.
Epoch Sports, a sports brand, has partnered with several global sports leagues and teams, so it is possible that NFTs will be used in more related clothing in the future.
Examples of luxury brands
Recently, there have been a series of cases where high-end fashion brands have launched products that are paired with NFTs.
Dior, for example, unveiled a new line of men’s shoes on June 30 with a digital twin by NFT. This is tied to NFTs minted on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain.
Louis Vuitton also released an NFT called “Treasure Trunk” on June 16th. Comes with a bespoke physical trunk.
