new Delhi. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told the officials on Wednesday that strictly against those trying to steal tax and express gratitude to the honest taxpayers for their good service. The Finance Minister said that if you are serious about those who play the system, then I am with you. Sitharaman was addressing the officials at the Income Tax Day celebrations.
Revenue Department’s three branches share information: Finance Minister
The Finance Minister said that the three departments of the Revenue Department – Income Tax Department, Enforcement Directorate and Revenue Intelligence – share information with each other to catch tax evaders. He asked the taxpayers that tax filling should not be a punishment but should contribute to the development of the country.
Sitharaman asked the officials to try to increase the tax base. The target of direct tax collection of Rs 13.35 lakh crore fixed in the budget can be achieved. Because, in the last 5 years, the tax collection has doubled.
The Finance Minister told tax officials like bee that drinks juice without damaging the flowers. He said that every time the complaints of taxpayers received on social media are sent to Revenue Sectorry so that proper action can be taken. Sitharaman says that the department can not be run solely on the basis of social media feedback. But, this platform helps in understanding ground level ideas.
