US theatre chain AMC Entertainment’s CEO Adam Aron announced on the 16th that it will start supporting other cryptocurrencies along with Bitcoin (BTC) as an online payment method by year-end.
In a financial results briefing held in August, CEO Aron announced that AMC would start accepting Bitcoin for online payments. This time, however, he has announced that the chain would now accept Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) as well.
The announcement was made via a Twitter post on Wednesday. He wrote:
“Cryptocurrency enthusiasts: you likely know @AMCTheatres has announced we will accept Bitcoin for online ticket and concession payments by year-end 2021. I can confirm today that when we do so, we also expect that we similarly will accept Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash.”
AMC Theaters is a major chain that operates around 1,000 movie theaters in the United States and other parts of Europe and the Middle East. Its stock price was temporarily sluggish after business deteriorated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to CEO Aron, the introduction of cryptocurrency payments was made after receiving requests from individual investors, who own approximately 80% of the company’s meme-stocks.
