Woman set on fire after failed rape attempt in UP

A case has been registered against a 25-year-old man in connection with the burning of a woman after a failed rape attempt at Pilipit in Uttar Pradesh. Police on Sunday registered a case against a resident of Harkishanpur village for attempting to murder his elder brother’s wife. The incident is dated June 11, but since the woman was seriously injured, due to which she could not record her statement, a case was registered two months after the crime. According to police, the woman gave a statement that after failing to commit rape, her brother-in-law set her on fire by spraying kerosene on her.

More than 80 percent of the injured women are being treated in a hospital in Bareilly. The victim’s brother said, ‘My sister’s condition is improving. He told us about the incident for the first time after the burning. The victim’s brother, a resident of Hafeezganj city, said in her written complaint to Nuria police station, “Since her marriage in May 2016, my sister was apprehensive about her brother-in-law’s intentions and when she told her husband about it Scolded him and kept him silent.

The victim’s brother alleged that after failing the rape, his brother-in-law, with the support of his family members, set my sister on fire by pouring kerosene on her. SHO of Nuria Police Station Birja Ram said that the accused has been booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and will be arrested soon.
